Located in Melanesia, Vanuatu comprises 83 islands, mostly volcanic. The country is very little westernized due to its remote location. The vast majority of the islands have no electricity grid. The country has the greatest linguistic diversity in the world. On the island of Malekula are spoken 30 different languages (one language for less than 800 inhabitants). The three official languages are English, French and Bislama (pidgin with English base, vehicular language of the country). The nakamals is an essential part of the local culture. Reserved for men, it is a place of social and political meeting where we drink kava (wild pepper root). Today, kava is also a bar where to drink kava.
